The voluntary organization OASIS (Children's Support Group of Heraklion) was founded in December 2003 with the aim of preventing and protecting abused and neglected children.

Pioneers in this effort were awakened professionals from the field of health and social care (doctors, social workers, psychologists, speech therapists), from wider work groups (educators, police, lawyers, private employees), who come into frequent contact with children at risk but also from individuals, businessmen, active citizens in general who really do not remain indifferent to the issues concerning children.

Specifically, the union's actions include:

Support, care and protection of abused children and therapeutic intervention in families
Information and public awareness
Cooperation with related unions and competent bodies and coordination of relevant programs
Establishment of the union as an advisory body within schools and educational institutions
Visits and employment of children hosted in institutions
Operation of a psychosocial support office
Media interventions on children's issues
Registration of accommodation facilities for children in Crete
Operation of a telephone line for children at risk
Continuous and systematic exchange of experiences and ideas by organizing debates, information days and conferences at local, nationwide or international level or informing
Utilization of state or community funds that may be provided to achieve the above objectives

Our beneficiaries are

Children at risk, unaccompanied children, street children, small artists, children at traffic lights, children who do not go to school, in need of basic medical care, every little fellow human who experiences social and/or economic exclusion not only from basic goods but also from childhood carelessness, carelessness, play.

Best practices

We work on two axes, preventive and interventional following best practices as well as innovative actions. We have implemented and are constantly improving the "Take it differently" program that concerns road safety and the effort to change the driving culture and the "Child at Risk" program that concerns information and awareness about neglect and child abuse.

At the same time, in collaboration with the services, we annually support every family that is in a vulnerable position, seeking to guarantee children's access to basic resources and services, namely free pre-school education and care, free education, free provision of health services, decent housing and adequate and healthy food.
